What fits perfectly today doesn’t have to stay that way forever. studio knot develops modular rugs as individual design pieces that can be altered, expanded and reconfigured time and again.

The first rug can be deliberately small to begin with and supplemented with further elements at a later date – when the living space changes, more floor space becomes available, or an initial idea develops into a larger concept. In this way, the rug grows in line with spatial and personal requirements without compromising on design quality.

The shape, colour and size of the individual modules can be freely customised. The elements interlock precisely yet remain flexible. This allows the composition to be reimagined at any time: as a single, continuous rug in the living room or divided across different areas – one element by the sofa, another under the desk or in another part of the room.

The way the modules connect has been deliberately designed to be self-contained. They do not function like traditional jigsaw pieces, but come together to form a calm, cohesive shape, the individual elements of which only become apparent at second glance.

The concept combines the quality of a bespoke, one-off piece with the flexibility of a modular system. Much like a high-quality piece of furniture that can be adapted to changing needs, the result is a rug that is not designed for a specific moment, but can evolve over the years.
